I have been involved in a car crash. What should I do?

First things first.  Your health and safety is first.  Get yourself checked out.  Go to the emergency room or make an appointment with your primary care provider.  Seek treatment for your symptoms.  Follow up on the advice of your health care providers.  Your claim against the insurance company will wait.   You have Personal Injury Protection benefits that will pay for your medical treatment, up to $15,000 or through the first year after the collision, whichever comes first.  Your insurance will pay for emergency medical treatment, physical therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage, or other medically necessary and reasonable services for treatment of your injuries.

By the time you are reading this, you will have already exchanged insurance information with the other driver.  If you have any contact information for any witnesses, keep that information somewhere safe that you will be able to find it.  If you have any photographs of your injuries or the scene of the collision on your phone, email them to yourself in case your phone is damaged or replaced.

Make an appointment to speak with an attorney — at no charge to you — before deciding how best to proceed.
